The cosmic table was designed as a kids table, or side table for a small living space. The table conveniently stores any items inside the dome compartment and can even act as a lamp when a light source is applied inside of it.

Once the form was finalized it was time to produce the parts for the table. I drew out my measurements and a silhouette to turn on the lathe for the legs. The frame and lid was constructed from solid ash, and the legs were mounted with live tenons. The styrene dome was adhered with epoxy.

The cosmic table was a product of mixed media explorations, trying to incorporate styrene with solid wood in an elegant, and purposeful way. I was drawn to vacuum forming and found that I could integrate the process into the table. I did some samples with the vacuum former until I resolved the form and then chose an appropriate hardwood to compliment the white styrene.
